Migration guide

Looking for a Sora alternative?

OpenAI discontinues the Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro API on September 24, 2026. Sora stays selectable until that date; move new work now. After the shutdown, generation requests from saved agents, workflows and scripts that still name Sora are rerouted, to Veo 3.1 by default, with a notice in the API response; Sora extensions return an error.

For marketers who built on Sora: which engine takes over which job, what changes in the request, and what to expect on price. Veo 3.1 for native audio, Kling 3.0 for real people, Seedance for product motion, all behind one prompt box, one agent and one CLI.

Which engine takes over which Sora job

Clips with sound

Sora's native audio

Veo 3.1: synchronized audio on every tier, cinematic prompt understanding, 4 to 8 seconds per segment. Standard 240 credits per second, Fast 60, Lite 30 (1,920, 480 or 240 for an 8-second clip).

Real people and UGC ads

Sora's cameo-style and creator content

Kling 3.0: the most permissive engine on the platform for real people (Veo blocks public figures), best motion, Motion Control, native audio. 80 credits per second (400 for a 5-second clip), 5 or 10 seconds.

Product motion from a still

Sora's image-to-video

Seedance in Marketing Studio: UGC and product shots animated from one image with motion presets, 3 to 12 seconds at 60 credits per second (720p). Kling and Luma cover the rest of image-to-video.

Migrate in three steps

1

Swap the provider

In the Video Factory pick Veo 3.1 or Kling 3.0. In scripts, change the provider key: ve videos generate "..." --provider veo -d 8 or --provider kling-3.0 -d 5. Agents and workflows that still say Sora keep working and are rerouted after the shutdown, but re-pick the engine to control the price.

2

Rewrite the prompt for the engine

Veo reads film grammar (lens, lighting, camera move) and renders dialogue you quote. Kling wants the motion named plainly: push-in, orbit, pour. Sora prompts that leaned on music descriptions should describe ambient sound instead; add music in your editor.

3

Rebuild long pieces

Sora's true extension has no equivalent. Ask Veo for a longer duration and Viral Engine chains segments from the last frame automatically; use video extend on Kling or Luma; or let Long Video Chain render a whole script as segments with one voiceover.
